MONROVIA, February 27 (LINA) - Acting Information Minister Isaac Jackson has disclosed that for the past seven days Liberia has not reported a single confirmed case of Ebola.
Quoting statistics emanating from the Incidence Management System (IMS), Jackson revealed that there are 116 Ebola contacts, 98 of which are in Montserrado and 18 in Margibi counties, while all of the 19 ETUs in the country only have two confirmed Ebola patients.
He made the disclosure at the Ministry of Information daily Ebola press conference held at the ministry in Monrovia on Friday.
“Grand Cape Mount County has completed two incubation periods without a new Ebola case, which means that all counties, except Montserrado and Margibi, have gone 42 days or more without a confirmed Ebola case,” Jackson quoted the IMS report as saying.
He noted that this report signifies that Liberia is gradually moving towards the end of the Ebola crisis, but cautioned citizens not to delve into what he termed “passive complacency” as the nation strives to obtain and stay at zero infection.
“We need to resist the temptation that comes with fatigue, we are getting to the finish line and we cannot afford to be tired, we have to remain on the alert by continuing to comply with health regulations,” the Minister cautioned.
Quoting the IMS report further, Jackson disclosed that there were 35 cases in Guinea, 63 in Sierra Leone and one in Liberia, bringing to 99 the total number of confirmed Ebola cases recorded regionally as of February 19.
Of the total number of cases reported in Guinea and Sierra Leone, one confirmed case was recorded in Lola while another was recorded in Kenema, both towns which are in the proximity of the borders with Liberia.
