MONROVIA, March 2 (LINA) - Acting Information Minister Isaac Jackson has expressed the gratitude of the Government to U.S. President Barack Obama for the recognition of the progress made in Liberia by the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf administration.
Jackson noted that the U.S. President’s commendation of the Liberian government speaks to the fact that Liberia under the leadership of President Sirleaf has impressive democratic credentials.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information daily press conference at the ministry Monday, Jackson also said the reception received by President Sirleaf in the U.S. during her three-day visit was “a vote of confidence in her leadership ability.”
The Minister indicated that President Sirleaf’s recognition is a result of the “impressive manner” in which she has steered the affairs of Liberia, as well as her demonstrated ability in upholding the rule of law, democracy and her fight against corruption.
“At this stage there can be absolutely no debate about Liberia-U.S relations. The President’s visit confirms the solidity of the partnership. President Obama’s warm expression validates the solid bond of relationship between the two nations,” Jackson emphasized.
Speaking further, Jackson noted that President Sirleaf’s appreciation by the U.S President and other member States of the international community is also a result of her demonstrated leadership in the country’s fight against the Ebola virus.
A dispatch from the U.S where President Sirleaf ended an official on Monday, March 2, quotes President Obama as describing the Liberian leader as “a friend and ally,” pledging the U.S. Government’s commitment to assist Liberia in its post-Ebola recovery effort.
