MONROVIA, March 3(LINA) –Representative Bhofal Chambers has underscored the need to suspend the creation of new government agencies considering the economic constraints confronting the country.

Chambers noted that creating new functionaries will impose additional financial burden on the government to the disadvantage of the Liberian people.

He recommended that focus be placed on building the financial capacities of existing agencies of government, and strengthening them to be effective and efficient in carrying out their various statutory mandates, the Liberia News Agency reports.

Chambers, who spoke Tuesday in Session during deliberation on a communication he sent to Speaker J. Alexander Tyler, said the funds that would be spent on new entities could go towards improving the education, health and agriculture sectors.

He noted that security, medical, education and agriculture institutions lack uniforms, equipment, operational materials and other essentials, adding that money is needed to be pumped into these areas to make them more viable and responsive.

After the reading of the communication, Plenary sent it to the Committees on Governance and Judiciary with no specified time to report.
