MONROVIA, March 4 (LINA) – Seven refugees residing in former camps or host communities in Montserrado County died of the Ebola disease, the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) has disclosed.
LRRRC Executive Director Cllr. Abla Williams said of the total number
of deaths, six were Sierra Leoneans and one Ugandan, all of whom were residents of communities that previously hosted refugee camps in Montserrado County.
Cllr. Williams made the disclosure at the Ministry of Information daily
Ebola press conference held at the ministry in Monrovia on Wednesday.
She noted that there were also several cases of Ebola infection in the former refugee communities of VOA, Low Cost Village, Banjor and Samukai Town in Montserrado County, but none of the infected persons died.
She also disclosed that refugee camps, especially those hosting large Ivorian refugee population outside Montserrado county, have up to now not reported a single case of Ebola.
Williams attributed the success of zero Ebola infection within refugee camps to the robust awareness campaign instituted by the LRRRC Ebola Taskforce, local health
authorities and county health teams.
LRRRC is the government refugee agency established by law to provide
international protection and assistance to refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other Persons of Concern (POCs).
