MONROVIA, March 6 (LINA) - At least 200 households and over 1,000 people in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County, are to benefit from a newly-inaugurated portable water pipeline extension system.
According to a US Embassy release, the American Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Government of Liberia, inaugurated the new water pipeline extension system.
The new pipeline, which extends access from the interim water treatment plant by an additional two kilometers into the community, and the construction of three water booths were funded by the U.S. Government.
The release noted that they are part of the development of a larger distribution system for piped water that will ensure that 90 percent of the citizens of Robertsport have access to clean water.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony attended by Vice President Joseph Boakai and other government officials, U. S. Ambassador Deborah Malac said rebuilding Liberia’s water infrastructure was no easy task.
She said U.S. Government was, however, committed to seeing the full renovation of the Robertsport water system completed in partnership with the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation, Government of Liberia and the Local Steering Committee.
Vice President Boakai thanked the U.S. Government for continuing to work with Liberia and said the provision of clean water to citizens was part of the Government’s medium-term development strategy- the Agenda for Transformation.
He called on the community to take ownership of the facilities by working to maintain and sustain them. “This is part of showing that you are a responsible people and nation,” he said.
