MONROVIA, March 6 (LINA) –Youth and Sports Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe did not appear before full plenary of the Liberian Senate Thursday due to official engagement out of the country.

He was expected to appear before the Senate with his legal counsel to give reasons why he should not be held in contempt for obstructing the body’s function in mid-February.

He on March 4 sent a communication informing the body of his inability to appear due to official duties outside of the country.

The communication, read during the body’s regular session Thursday, indicated that the Youth and Sports Minister would be returning to the country on March 10.

The letter, which was signed by Deputy Sports Minister Henry B. Yonton, also assured the plenary of the Minister’s appearance upon his return home.

The body’s decision to cite the Sports minister was based on his refusal to attend a scheduled meeting with the Senate’s ad-hoc committee on Youth and Sports headed by Montserrado County Senator George Weah.
