MONROVIA, March 6 (LINA) -President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and delegation have arrived in New York to participate in several UN high-level meetings and hold talks with bilateral partners.
The Liberian leader travelled to New York after a successful trip to Brussels where she participated in a High-Level Ebola Conference held under the auspices of the European Union.
According to a dispatch from the Permanent Mission of Liberia to the United Nations, President Sirleaf will address the UN High-Level Thematic Debate on “Advancing Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women and Girls for a Transformative Post 2015Development Agenda”.
The program will also commemorate the anniversary of the International Women’s Day, under the slogan “Empower women, Empower humanity. Picture it”
Following the official ceremony, President Sirleaf will chair an interactive panel on the theme: “Women Economic and Political Empowerment, including access to decent work, and control over economic and productive resources and active participation in governance and decision making"
On Monday, March 9, President Sirleaf will also attend the launch of “No Ceiling full participation Report on Women’s Progress” hosted by Hilary Clinton and Melinda Gates. President Sirleaf will serve as Guest Speaker at this event.
In addition, President Sirleaf will deliver a keynote address at the UN Women pinnacle celebration of the historic landmark of the Beijing Conference which sets a roadmap for women’s equality and empowerment globally.
