MONROVIA, March 6 (LINA) – The Ministries of Transport and Commerce and Industry are calling on citizens to help in the vigorous enforcement of the new transport fares announced in January this year.

Addressing the daily Ministry of Information press conference in Monrovia Thursday, acting Information Minister Isaac Jackson said the two ministries have observed that contrary to the approved fares, especially for Monrovia, commercial drivers are still overcharging commuters.

He said as part of the enforcement exercise, hotline services have been established and fines imposed for violators, adding that all a commuter needs to do when overcharged by a driver is to call 0888960960 and 0888961961.

Jackson noted that taxi drivers found guilty will pay a fine of US$100 for the first offense, US$200 for the second and two years suspension of the driver’s license for the third offence.

He said bus and pickup drivers will pay a fine of US$200 for the first offence, US$400 for the second and two years suspension of their license for the third offence.
