BUCHANAN, March 6 (LINA) - Bong County Senator Jewel Howard Taylor has proposed the setting up of plants to process locally grown crops across Liberia to turn the produce into finished products for export.

Senator Taylor observed that the processing plants will empower rural women and minimize the quantity of spoiled crops on the market, as most of the crops get spoiled due to the lack of processing.

She made the statement at the opening of a three-day economic empowerment conference for rural women in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, which ends Friday.

“Your bitter balls, pepper, okra and other food crops can be processed, packaged and shipped to other countries for good money just as other countries are doing and you will see your worth,” she emphasized.

Taylor disclosed that neighboring countries are shipping food crops on the world market after processing and packaging them and Liberian rural women can do likewise or even better.

She urged them to make suggestions on issues in their interest during the constitution review debates that are taking place across the country to ensure that their desires are placed in the constitution.
