MONROVIA, March 6 (LINA) - An official of the West Africa Ebola Survivors and Affected Organization (WAESAO), Prince Danyea, has emphasized the need to intensify anti-stigmatization campaigns to end the isolation of Ebola survivors.
Danyea, who is WAESAO Director for Operations, noted that Ebola survivors are striving to live with the challenges of isolation and stigma which confront them daily.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information regular Ebola press conference Friday, Danyea stressed that life after surviving Ebola is fill with the difficulties of overcoming isolation and stigma, requiring awareness for the public to accept survivors.
He indicated that a campaign was launched by survivors in Liberia on January 23, 2015 to sensitize the public against stigmatizing survivors, adding: “They should rather accept survivors into homes and communities as they are not contagious.”
“We cannot do this on our own, because we lack the support to do so. We want to take the advocacy for Ebola survivors to the various counties because there are many challenges out there,” Danyea noted.
