(LINA) - The National Teachers Association of Liberia
(NTAL) has disclosed that discussions have been finalized between Liberia and Sierra Leone on the one hand and UNESCO on other to establish health clubs in all schools in the two countries.

In an interview with the Liberia News Agency Thursday in Monrovia, NTAL Secretary General Samuel Johnson said to enhance this venture, school personnel and students will be trained when training materials are supplied this month by UNESCO.

Mr. Johnson also said negotiations are underway between Guinean authorities and UNESCO to undertake a similar venture.

When established, the health clubs will help to educate students and community members on basic hygiene and sanitation practices as well as deliver health messages to communities to prevent future outbreaks of epidemics.

He explained that in the early 1980s there were health clubs in public schools that were used as a conduit for health-related cases that were later reported to nearby hospitals or clinics.
