MONROVIA, April 5 (LINA) –The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will Monday turn over nine vehicles to the Ministry of Internal Affairs in support of government’s deconcentration program.

The vehicles are in fulfillment of a commitment made by the European Union (EU) during the formal launch of government’s Deconcentration Platform in Gbarnga, Bong County on February 18 this year.
A Ministry of Internal Affairs press release said the vehicles will go to Bomi, Gbarpolu, Grand Gedeh, Lofa, Rivercess, Grand Kru, River Gee and Maryland counties.

It said the remaining counties will receive their vehicles under next year's work program.

Currently, the Liberian Government, with support from international partners, is implementing the Decentralization Support Program aimed at promoting shared governance and local economic development.

Deconcentration of services to the counties is a necessary first step to achieving successful decentralization in the country, the release added.
