MONROVIA, April 6 (LINA) – Ten Toyota vehicles value at US$183,000 were Monday turned over to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) by the European Union (EU) through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The vehicles are in support of the government’s decentralization program launched in February this year in the city of Gbarnga, Bong County.
Making the presentation at the headquarters of the EU in Mamba Point, the EU head of delegation to Liberia, Tiina Intelmann, hoped for the proper use of the vehicles.
“One of our top priorities is to enhance governance and the launch of the decentralization program will better the delivery of governance as decision-making will be decentralized,” Intelmann said.
Receiving the keys to the vehicles, Deputy Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf expressed the government’s gratitude for the donation and challenged County Superintendents to which the vehicles were issued to ensure proper use of them despite the difficult terrain in which they operate.
According to MIA, eight of the cars will be assigned to bBomi, Gbarpolu, Grand Gedeh, Lofa, Rivercess, Grand Kru, River Gee and Maryland counties while the other two will be used by other sections of the ministry.
