MONROVIA, April 5 (LINA) – The Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) is negotiating with an international procurement certification firm to introduce a procurement certification program in Liberia.

PPCC Executive Director James Jallah said when finalized, the arrangement will enable PPCC and collaborating public institutions to certificate and license those who complete the course to become professional procurement officers.

“All of these are intended to truly professionalize procurement,” said Jallah at the start of a two-week in-service training of procurement practitioners from 20 government ministries and agencies in Monrovia recently.

According to him, a collaborative effort between PPCC, Civil Service Agency (CSA) and the Liberia Institute of Public Administration (LIPA), is doing a career tracking program that will make easy the identification of potential professionals in the country.

He added that with the institution of the necessary mechanisms, only professionals and licensed procurement personnel will be allowed to practice in Liberia.

“We will hold responsible all professionals practitioners and will not hesitate to revoke an individual’s license when there is an ethical breach,” Jallah added.

PPCC provides institutional structures for public procurement and concessions, and stipulates methods and procedures for public procurement and concessions and for related purposes.

It is, among other things, aimed at maximizing economic and efficiency in procurement and concessions in order to obtain best value for public expenditures, promote economic development of Liberia and build capacity of officials and institutions in public procurement.
