MONROVIA, April 7 (LINA) –The Program Director of the President’s Young Professionals (PYP) program, Hh Zaizay, has lauded President Ellen Johnson Sieleaf for her role in establishing and making the program a successful venture for young Liberians.
Zaizay said President Sirleaf’s trust and confidence in the young people led to the setting up and successful implementation of the program’s objective which is primarily centered on making young Liberians professionals and future civil servants.
The PYP Director made the commendation Tuesday at the Ministry of Information daily press conference held at the ministry in Monrovia.
“When the President launched the PYP program in 2009, it was assured that young people when given the right support can do well. This is proven today that the young professionals who are placed in the government are continuing to excel,” Zaizay noted.
He said the program, through the instrumentality of President Sirleaf and sponsors, has since recruited a total of 77 young professionals, 19 of whom received scholarships to pursue Master’s and Doctorate degree programs abroad.
According to Zayzay, four of the students have returned to the country and are currently working with the Ministry of Agriculture as Soil Scientists.
The PYP Program was initiated by President Sirleaf in 2009, with the goal of recruiting, training and preparing promising and talented Liberian college graduates for a future in public service.
The program also seeks to give them the chance to provide additional support to
government ministries and agencies by performing a variety of critical tasks as required.
