MONROVIA, April 7(LINA) -The labor Ministry has launched a five-year National Action Plan (NAP) to fight against the trafficking of persons, according to the ministry’s 2014 annual report.

The report said in fulfillment of the plan launched in March 2014, the NAP Secretariat along with the International Labor Organization (ILO) conducted training and staff support for law enforcement officers and community leaders.

The report said as a consequence of the government’s anti-human trafficking policies and actions, the United States Department of State 2014 Human Trafficking report elevated Liberia’s status.

In a related development, the report disclosed that working in consonance with the ILO in 2014, the Ministry formulated a 38-member National Steering Committee for the elimination of the worst forms of child labor in Liberia.

According to the annual report, the committee comprises Government, social partners, civil society, private sector, non-governmental organizations and development partners as technical advisers.
The report stressed that the activities and interventions of the Committee have raised the consciousness of the general public on the negative impact of child labor in society.

Consequently, the report noted, the Ministry has strengthened its outreach in raising awareness against child labor through the National Steering Committee.
