MONROVIA, April 7 (LINA) – The Director General of the Liberia Institute of Public Administration (LIPA), Oblayon B. Nyema, says only professionals with the right skills can foster the Liberian Government’s quest to fully modernize the public sector.

He said as a public institution created by an Act of the Legislature in 1969, LIPA shares this responsibility as it has the mandate to train public servants.

Nyema told the formal orientation of the first cycle for 2015 Monday that since its creation, LIPA has and will continue to train civil servants as well as private citizens and institutions taking advantage of its training programs.

“We are repositioning our institute to meet the demands of this national agenda as we are currently training 35 public servants from 20 ministries and agencies of government,” Nyema noted.

“Moreover, your orientation today is clear demonstration of LIPA’s preparedness to assist government realize the full implementation of this plan,” he added.

Established in 1969, LIPA has the mandate to train civil servants in needed administrative fields as well as conduct research, provide consultancy and help government institutions with information services.

Many of the participants drawn from the public sector will be mentored in several courses, including Human Resource Management, Project Planning Management and Procurement Management, among others.

Some of the courses will last for two weeks, while others will go for three weeks.
