KAKATA, April 7(LINA) - The acting County Attorney of Margibi County is calling for “a wholesome functioning justice system” because the State has lost many cases in court due to the absence of mutual cooperation between the prosecutors and police.

 
Attorney Isaac Liverpool George said in the absence of a proper coordination mechanism between the prosecution and the police, the State will find it “very difficult” to prosecute cases in court.
 
The acting County Attorney made the statement Tuesday in Kakata at the beginning of a three-day workshop on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Prosecution and the Liberia National Police in Kakata.
 
He said it is the police that commence the trial which is completed by the prosecution in court.
 
He said the workshop will serve as a conduit through which prosecution and the LNP will stall issues that are hampering the smooth and effective implementation of the MoU and find a better way of prosecuting cases.
 
The purpose of the MOU is to provide a clear and objective collaborative understanding of each party’s role and responsibility at the investigative and prosecution stages.
 
It also outlines the manner in which members of the LNP can assist personnel of the prosecution as they carry out their responsibilities enshrined in the Justice Ministry’s Guidelines in furtherance of an efficient administration of criminal justice.
 
The program brought together members of the LNP from three counties – Margibi, Montserado and Grand Bassa.
