MONROVIA, April 9 (LINA) -The Resident Bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW), Rev. Dr. Leo Simpson, has described as a recipe for conflict the recent decision by delegates at the constitution review conference to vote for Liberia to be a “Christian State.”

Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency at his Sinkor office Wednesday, Bishop Simpson said what Christians should do now is to vigorously evangelize and win non-Christians over to the Kingdom of God, rather than create divisions among the people that could lead to chaos.
He disclosed that Christians and Muslims in Liberia have peacefully co-existed for several centuries without interference in one another’s affairs, and as such, the decision to marginalize one group will not augur well for the country.
Bishop Simpson also observed that nearly all people serving in government in Liberia claim to be Christians but are nurturing high levels of corruption in the public sector, stressing that corruption itself is a sin which is counter-productive to God’s commandments.
He pointed that Christians are direct representatives of the Lord Jesus Christ who during his days preached good messages to all generations and did not divide the people, noting, “Anyone following him must exemplify his examples.”
He then challenged the crafters of the document seeking to Christianize the nation to take into consideration the disadvantages it could cause for Liberia.
