MONROVIA, April 9 (LINA) - The 2015 General Assembly of the National Union of Organizations of the Disabled (NUOD) has ended with the election of a new corps of officials for a four-year term.

At the climax of the general assembly Wednesday, NUOD delegates from all the 15 political sub-divisions of the country elected Rev. Fallah Boima Cymbianoh as president.

During the election, which was held at the S. Trowen Nagbe United Methodist Church in Sinkor, Naomi Harris was elected first vice president; Daniel Dargbe, second vice president and Boakai Nyei, Secretary General, among others.

Speaking after the announcement of the election results, Rev. Cymbianoh said people living with disability have been neglected and marginalized in the Liberian society over the years, and called for their recognition as citizens deserving equal access and opportunities.

He noted that disability does mean inability to go to school and work, noting that many disabled people have been discriminated against in public and private institutions across Liberia.

He then pledged that NUOD will continue to advocate for the rights of disabled people in Liberia.

The NUOD is the “umbrella” organization of Disabled People Organizations (DPOs) in Liberia and was formally registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 28, 1995.
