(LINA) – President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has urged Liberians to see the observance of National Fast and Prayer Day as a challenge for them to right historical and generational wrongs.
President Sirleaf pointed out that this year’s Fast and Prayer Day should bring together the people of Liberia to praise God not only for the eradication of the deadly Ebola virus but also for the celebration of 12 years of peace.
“We have gathered here today in the tradition of our forefathers who set aside this day for prayers not only from the German Sailors but also for the delivery from the cross of discrimination, hatred, exclusion and humiliation,” the Liberian leader noted.
She made the statement at programs marking the observance of National Fast and Prayer Day held at the Providence Baptist Church in Monrovia Friday under the auspices of the Liberia Council of Churches and Association of Evangelicals of Liberia, among others.
She noted that “Liberians can now praise God because we have strength of character to stand up as “One People, One Nation under God.”
She admonished Liberians to submit to the principle of Christ that says no one is lower than the other in the sight of God.
