On the occasion marking the observance of National Fast and Prayer Day, Liberians have been urged to always be thankful to God for lifting the country from a protracted period of historical difficulties.

Delivering the sermon Friday at a program marking the Day held at the Providence Baptist Church in Monrovia, Rev. Matthew A. Jallah called on Liberians to reflect on the nation’s periods of tribulation and glorify the name of God for showing continuous mercy upon the nation.

Rev. Jallah, who is Senior Pastor of the S.Trowen Nagbe United Methodist Church, believes that the glory of God and his blessings have been with Liberia from the time of its birth, through the colonial era to the civil conflict and Ebola crisis.

According to the prelate, for the blessings of God to remain with the nation, Liberians must continue to glorify the name of God during good and bad times, adding, “The Lord has promised that He will always be with his people.”

Also speaking at the occasion, the Bishop of the Episcopal Church of Liberia, Rev. Jonathan B.B. Hart, encouraged Liberians to commemorate the day by reflecting on how the nation was empowered by God to face the deadly Ebola virus.

Hart alluded to the perseverance of members of the religious community in remembering the nation in their regular Friday Fast and Prayer exercise as part of endeavors that enabled the nation to make significant gains in the Ebola crisis.

Meanwhile, Rev. Hart is entreating Liberians to remain cognizant of the fact that the nation will soon prevail over the virus, but reminded all that upholding the regular preventive measures should be the priority of every Liberian.

The commemoration of National Fast and Prayer day is in consonance with an Act of the National Legislature passed in 1883, which declared the Second Friday in April each year as National Fast and Prayer Day to be observed as a national holiday.
