MONROVIA, April 11 (LINA) -The National Elections Commission (NEC) Saturday finally certificated Margibi County Senator-elect Jim Wonba Tornonlah.
The certification ceremony, which took place at the headquarters of the NEC in the Monrovia suburb of Sinkor, follows a Supreme Court of Liberia order to the NEC to certificate the Margibi County Senator- elect, following the lifting of a stay order placed on his certification due to rejection of the December 2014 election result by his contenders.
It can be recalled that the defeated Margibi County senatorial candidate of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Professor Ansu D. Sonii and Saah Gbollie of the National Patriotic Party (NPP) challenged the election result of Margibi at the level of the NEC, and later dragged both the commission and the winning candidate before the highest court which issued a prohibition against certificating Mr. Tornonlah.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 confirmed Mr. Tornonlah, lifted the stay order on the certification of the People’s Unification Party (PUP) candidate and declared him the winner of the Margibi senatorial poll.
Presenting the certificate to Mr. Tornonlah, NEC acting Chair Cllr. Sarah Toe lauded Senator Tornonlah, for his patience and steadfastness throughout the legal process.
The NEC acting chair then cautioned Senator Tornonlah to do all within his
power to justify the confidence reposed in him by the people of Margibi County to the best of his ability.
In remarks, Senator Tornonlah lauded his political party, the Peoples Unification Party (PUP) and the NEC for their commitment in standing with him during the legal process.
He then promised to justify the confidence reposed in him by the people of Margibi County, stressing that his priority will be to focus on the human resource development of his county.
He also extended a hand of friendship to all hose that took part in the Margibi County Special Senatorial election to work together for the growth and development of their county.
