VOINJAMA, April 11 (LINA) - Citizens of Vonema Town in Voinjama District, Lofa County have commended the Swedish Government for rehabilitating the 13.1 kilometer road connecting the town to other parts of Voinjama District.

The citizens through Town Chief William T. Ballah also thanked the Swedish Government for constructing a school to provide primary education in the town.

The citizens made the commendation Thursday when Swedish Ambassador to Liberia, Sofia Strand, accompanied by Carter Center Chief of Party, Pewee Flomoku, paid a visit to Vonema Town to inspect the Swedish-funded 13.1km road estimated to cost US$495,000.

In welcome remarks, Town Chief Ballah also appealed to Sweden to construct hand pumps and a clinic in the area to alleviate problems the citizens currently encounter in accessing safe drinking water and medical treatment.

He said Vonema, which has a population of more than 4,000, has no hand pumps, leaving residents to drink water from nearby creeks and streams.

In response to the appeal, Ambassador Strand and Mr. Flomoku commended the people of Vonema for peacefully co-existing as Lormas and Mandingoes and for the resilience they have exhibited in the fight against the Ebola virus.

They assured the citizens that they would endeavor to find a remedy to the problems they are faced with.
