MONROVIA, April 17 (LINA) -The Commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration and Nationalization (BIN), Lemuel Reeves, has warned that Liberia is still under threat of Ebola as long as Mano River Union countries like Guinea and Sierra Leone are still recording new cases of the disease.

Commissioner Reeves stressed the need for greater surveillance and monitoring to be instituted at the various border points and illegal crossing areas between Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea to ensure that people leaving from one country to the other are properly screened.

The BIN official was speaking Thursday at the BIN head office in Monrovia when the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) donated several shelter tents for the deployment of BIN officers at various crossing points along Liberia’s borders with countries in the Mano River basin.

He indicated that monitoring and patrolling are essential to also prevent cross-border crimes, and not only the threat of Ebola, noting that it will enhance effective and efficient border security in Liberia.

He commended the UNDP for its continued support to BIN in the fight against Ebola since its outbreak in Liberia, noting that the institution has provided BIN with anti-Ebola materials and logistical support.
