MONROVIA, April16 (LINA) - Education Minister Etmonia D. Tarpeh has challenged Liberian teachers to ensure that their lesson plans are aligned with the Liberian Government’s peace-building initiatives to address national “conflict drivers.”
Tarpeh named poor leadership and misuse of power, political polarization, work and dysfunctional justice systems, poverty and food insecurity and identity-based divisions as well as lack of shared national vision as some of the “conflict drivers.”
Minister Tarpeh was speaking Thursday during a program to validate the Early Childhood Development Curriculum by the Ministry of Education and development partners held at the ministry in Monrovia.
She stressed that this new curriculum has come up with a holistic approach in the development of Liberian children, which includes intellectual, social, physical and emotional, rather than the old approach that concentrated only on academic development.
She said the curriculum will develop a new generation of Liberians who in order to have respect for human rights, rule of law, diversity, tolerance and team work, will ensure that children are provided opportunities and child friendly environment to develop all aspects of the child-based on his or her cognition.
Tarpeh acknowledged the contribution of the National Inter-Sectorial Committee on Early Childhood Education Development for their contributions to ensure the success of the curriculum.
The committee is comprised of the Ministries of Health, Gender, Internal Affairs, Justice, Finance, Youth and Sport and Information and the National Commission on Higher Education, according to Tarpeh.
