OSIWA Reiterates Commitment To Train Teachers

MONROVIA, April 17(LINA) -The Country Director of the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) in Liberia, Massa Crayton, has reiterated her organization’s commitment to train Liberian teachers for effective implementation of the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Curriculum in Liberia.



Director Crayton stressed that Liberia needs to be  more proactive in rolling out the Early Childhood Development Curriculum through the preparation of teachers, service providers and caretakers  to conceptualize it within the Liberian setting.

The OSIWA official made the commitment Thursday at a program to validate the Early Childhood Development Curriculum which has been developed by partners and the National Inter-Sectorial Committee to teach conflict resolution in early childhood education development in Liberia.

She pointed out that OSIWA will also support the integration of the ECD into the curriculum at the various teacher training institutions and at university level where people will obtain the Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education Development to capacitate them to professionally manage the process.

She explained that capacity-building is essential for the actual implementation of early childhood development curriculum that would prepare Liberian children to respect human rights, develop love for country, tolerance and respect for the rule of law which will make them productive and peaceful citizens in the future.

Director Crayton indicated that the curriculum is dynamic and reflects the reality of changing times.

The Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) is active in ten countries in the region and focuses on law, justice, human rights, economic and political governance.
