MONROVIA, April 28 (LINA) - Defense Minister Brownie Samukai is recommending the establishment of an endowment fund at the University of Liberia to be managed by the UL Alumni Association as is done in other universities around the world.

The Liberian Defense Minister, who pledged 40 cups of paint to the UL, argued that establishing the endowment fund will help the University administration in some of their undertakings such as providing scholarships to deserving students.

Minister Samukai made the recommendation Tuesday at the launch of a campaign code-named “Paint the UL” organized by the UL Administration in collaboration with the UL Alumni Association on the main campus on Capitol Hill.

In remarks at the program, UL president Dr. Emmett Dennis made an appeal to the public and members and leaders of the UL Alumni Association to assist the UL Administration with a minimum cash contribution of US$15 each, which is the price of a can of paint, to enable the administration purchase a specific grade of oil paint to give its campuses a face-lift.
He lamented that the paint on buildings of the University's campuses was deplorable and that it was necessary to give the campuses a face-lift.

He paid tribute to the University of Liberia Faculty Association (ULFA) for their steadfastness aimed at providing sound education to students of the university despite financial difficulties.

He said the Liberian Government is working in close collaboration with the University administration to ensure that the problem of the three month salary arrears owed them is settled.
