Govt. Opts For Improved WASH System At Health Facilities

MONROVIA, April 28 (LINA) –The Assistant Health Minister Dr. Saye Dahn Baawo has disclosed that the government has conducted a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) assessment in 665 targeted public and private health facilities across the country.


 
Dr. Baawo said the assessment was geared towards improving the medical waste management, water supply and sewage systems of the facilities.
 
He made the disclosure at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing in Monrovia Tuesday.
 
Dr. Baawo said the government will provide support to healthcare waste management to the first 47 health facilities in the 15 political sub-divisions of the country, which will be funded by United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
 
The Ministry of Health official informed journalists that of the 624 healthcare workers from the 47 health facilities, the government has trained 577, representing 95 percent, in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).
 
Dr. Baawo also noted that 598 of the 624 healthcare workers have infra-red thermometers for monitoring patients’ temperature before assessing health status.
