MONROVIA, May 4 (LINA) – Labor Minister Neto Lighe has called on companies operating in Liberia to adhere to collective bargaining agreements reached with workers to avoid labor unrest.

 
Lighe noted that where management stalls the implementation of a collective bargaining agreement, workers resort to strike actions as a way of claiming attention.
 
He told the ELBC radio talk show ‘The Super Morning Show’ Monday, that it would be prudent for the managements of companies to inform the ministry on time if for any reason they are unable to fully implement agreements.
 
Lighe assured that the Labor Ministry will continue to do its best in handling labor-related issues, taking into account the interest of both the workforce and management to promote labor harmony.
 
Meanwhile, Minister Lighe has disclosed that he is exerting efforts to resolve the situation involving aggrieved Liberian workers of the Chinese concession company China Union, and the management in Bong County.
 
The Liberian workers recently staged a protest action for alleged abuse and bad labor practices.
 
The protestors carried placards calling on President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the National Legislature to promptly intervene in the matter.
