MONROVIA, May 5 (LINA) – With only four days left for Liberia to complete the 42 days to becoming an Ebola-free nation, Information Minister Lewis Brown has urged Liberians to celebrate the rebirth of the nation.

Brown said as Liberia stands “just a grasp away from conquering a predatory disease” whose unprecedented outbreak could have brought many nations of the world to their knees, Liberians should lay just claims to the nation’s creed of dutifully applying hearts and hands to defend the causes of their nation.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information regular press conference at the Ministry on Tuesday, Brown made specific reference to the spirit of collectivity exhibited by Liberians in combating the Ebola virus as a “spirit of nation-building.”

“This is nation-building, becoming aware of our differences while looking beyond, and working through our differences for the common good of all others, we are more than a country, we are Liberians blessed with the gift of resilience and the collective power to meet the foe with valor unpretending,” Brown noted.

According to Brown, the Ebola crisis has taught Liberians a serious lesson that will forever be remembered, but noted that it has also afforded Liberians the opportunity to exist in the spirit of oneness which is required during trying periods to ensure success.

In what is known as the biggest outbreak of the Ebola virus disease in history, Liberia lost over 3,500 of its citizens to the Ebola virus which also rendered more than 3,000 children orphans, as well as crumbling the health sector and the nation’s economy.

Since March 2014, increased governmental and international efforts have placed Liberia at the recovering end against the Ebola disease which is aptly referred to as the greatest threat to public health that this generation has faced.

Liberia’s previous quest of becoming an Ebola-free nation was disrupted by the emergence of a new case on March 20, 2015 after the country made a journey of over 27 days into the 42 days countdown period.
