MONROVIA, May 7 (LINA) - Nimba County Representative Samuel Kogar has called for increased budgetary allotment for the security sector for Fiscal Year 2015/2016.

 
Kogar noted that the security sector needed to be given adequate financial support to empower it fill the gap that will be created after the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) completes its drawdown in June 2016.     
 
He expressed fears that there would be a total breakdown of law and order after UNMIL departs the country, judging from the wave of violence being experienced between security forces and civilians in recent times.
Kogar’s call was contained in a letter to House Speaker J. Alex Tyler dated April 30 and read in Session Thursday in which he asked Plenary to endorse his call for increased budgetary allotment for institutions within the public security sector.
 
The Nimba County Representative stated that an assessment he conducted recently revealed that the presence of the Liberia National Police and the Armed Forces of Liberia is not currently felt in certain parts of the country, thereby creating security vacuum in the leeward counties.
 
According to him, the assessment also showed that military barracks and major police stations continue to lie in ruins, coupled with the lack of equipment and other essentials.
 
Plenary forwarded the letter to the Joint Committee on National Security and Ways, Means and Finance for scrutiny with the mandate to report in two weeks.
