FUAMAH, May 15 (LINA) - Margibi County Representative Ben A. Fofana is calling on workers of the China Union Investment Company to remain calm as efforts are being made to resolve their problem with management.

 
He said the ongoing go-slow action by workers is worrisome and that he will write House Speaker J. Alex Tyler to invite both the management and employees to a roundtable dialogue to settle the matter.
 
The Margibi County lawmaker made the statement in Fuamah District Thursday when he met with aggrieved employees of the company who are currently on a go-slow action in demand of benefits they claim management owes them.
 
He also lauded the workers for the non-violent posture they have exhibited since their go-slow action and urged them to continue to remain peaceful until a solution to their problem can be found.
 
Employees of the China Union Company have for the past 15 days been on a go- slow action in demand of several benefits, ranging from dependents’ education benefit to salary increment, and provision of Personal Protective Equipment, among others.
 
Following earlier interventions by the Labor Ministry, the management agreed to an increase in the dependents education benefit from US$100 to US$150, something the employees are saying is yet to be done.
 
Meanwhile, Workers Union president Kessellie Sumo has assured Rep. Fofana that their action will remain peaceful while awaiting redress.
 
Sumo said their claim against the China Union Management is legitimate and they are certain that an amicable solution will be found, stressing, “We cannot damage the very equipment we have to work with.”
 
China Union Investment (Liberia) Mining Company currently has in its employ over 400 Liberians.
