MONROVIA, May 15 (LINA) -The Ministry of Public Works (MPW) is appealing to companies, institutions and individuals engaging in public or private projects to submit a site plan to its Department of Technical Services for review and issuance of permits before proceeding with the project.

The National Zoning Law forbids individuals or institutions from carrying out any form of construction without following the procedures outlined in the law.

MPW National Zoning Officer Sam Kpakio told the Liberia News Agency Friday that the ministry has set October 2015 as the official date to commence nationwide demolition of illegal structures erected on public streets, right-of-ways and alleys.

Kpakio said the latest action by the Ministry is advised by persistent violation of the National Zoning Law by both public and private individuals despite efforts to curtail these “unwholesome and anti-development acts.”

He is urging individuals illegally constructing structures on alleys in Monrovia city and its suburbs to immediately desist or face the full weight of the law.

He said henceforth the Ministry’s inspectors will increase monitoring and supervision of construction activities in Monrovia and its environs.
