(LINA) – An executive of the Liberia Institute of Public Administration (LIPA) says the institute plays a cardinal role in the transformation agenda of government.
According to LIPA Director of Training, Esi Ogonkoya, the institute has improved and increased the quality of service intended to breach the gap between a fragile state and the delivery of quality services that will remedy the situation.
Ogonkoya was speaking when she addressed a program marking the 46th anniversary celebration of LIPA held at its headquarters in Monrovia recently.
She said as a cross-cutting capacity-building institution, LIPA is endeavoring to ensure the improvement of administrative performance and professional capabilities of both public and civil servants through training.
She noted that the institute will also research problems of public administration and consultation in public administration to develop mechanisms that will ensure maximum utilization of the potential sources of talent of the manpower of the country.
“As part of our new strategies, LIPA has developed public sector-based demand driven courses such as monitoring and evaluation that will assist officials of government to provide evidence-based information for sustainability of projects and programs,” she indicated.
Ogonkoya pointed out that the country’s weak capacity state has left citizens vulnerable, creating a situation that emphasizes the need for response to many challenges that are yet to be addressed.
Given its mandates, LIPA is charged with the responsibility of building the capacity of some 40,000 public, civil service personnel and staff at all level of management within the public sector.
Created by an Act of the Legislature on May 13, 1969, LIPA continues to adhere to its mandates with over 2,000 personnel trained in 2014 despite the Ebola epidemic that affected nearly all sectors of the country.
