(LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf says on the overall she is satisfied with progress made so far in Sinoe and Grand Kru counties slated to host this year’s Independence Day celebrations.

But, she reminded the leadership of the two counties that a lot more needs to be done to meet the deadline, especially for the projects expected to be dedicated during the celebrations.

She also urged citizens of Sinoe and Grand Kru counties, co-hosts of the 168th Independence Anniversary, to get a little more involved in giving the two capital cities - Greenville and Barclayville - a facelift.

The Liberian leader admonished citizens to clean their yards, cut the high bush growing around the two cities, and paint their houses. “They all need to join in to do their little part to make the two cities look good,” she pleaded.

According to an Executive Mansion release, President Sirleaf made the statement at the end of her visit to Sinoe and Grand Kru counties to assess the level of progress and preparation for the celebration of this year’s Independence Anniversary scheduled to be co-hosted by the two counties.

The Liberian leader specifically praised the efforts of the Public Works minister Gyude Moore and his team who have now completed 76 percent of rehabilitation work on the road broken into segments from Buchanan, Grand Bassa County to Barclayville, Grand Kru County.

President Sirleaf, however, cautioned that though a lot of work has been done on the roads, which has shortened the travel time between Buchanan to Barclayville through Greenville, if the rains are heavy, there will be difficulties on the roads.

“That’s nature and we don’t know what will happen; that’s the risk,” she warned.
