(LINA) - Several recommendations have been advanced to the Ministry of Education after the conclusion of a civil society-led assessment of safety protocols to the adherence of Ebola preventive measures in selected schools in Liberia.

According to the assessment, positive impressions have been noted even as there are causes for concern to take precautionary measures.

A release from the Liberia Civil Society Ebola Taskforce (LCSET) indicates that the two-prong study, which covers schools safety protocol adherence and the post- Ebola enrollment statistics, took place at schools in Monsterrado, Margibi and Cape Mount counties

Presenting the findings of this study at the fourth policy dialogue of LCSET in Monrovia, Ms. Caroline Myers Zoduah of AGENDA, recommended that the Ministry of Education constantly monitors adherence to the process to ensure that schools do not become complacent.

It was also recommended that the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit at the ministry identifies and follows up on schools that have not completed the setting up of isolation rooms and work with them to complete the setting up of same.

Out of a total of five hundred and eighty nine schools within the Ministry of Education data base targeted, one hundred and twenty nine could not be assessed, the release noted.

First Aid Kits were noted as “very important not only for Ebola, but also for other emergencies that are not Ebola related. As such, schools have been encouraged to take heed and put such facility in place,” the release said.

It was recommended that the ministry and partners identify schools that have not received first aid kits and ensure that these schools have same.

The study was carried out by the Civil Society Ebola Taskforce with funding from the American Jews World Service.
