MONROVIA March 29 (LINA) -Final arguments relative to the introduction of new evidence by the prosecution in the case involving 18 alleged Mercenaries ended Friday, at the Criminal Court “D” at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia.

 According to the Defense Counsel Dempster Brown, the motion filed earlier by the defense was intended to suppress new evidence adduced in court in the case.

Cllr. Brown further accused the prosecution of producing what he called “fake documents” written in French without an English version, saying that the document was not genuine and lacks every iota of truth to be used as evidence against the defendants.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Cllr. Brown further noted that the document should not be used in court because it lacks the moral value of facts and moreover, it was prepared by fluent French-speaking persons residing in Monrovia.

Cllr. Brown did not, however, name the French persons that allegedly prepared the documents, but prayed the court not to accept it as evidence against the defendants.

Meanwhile, the prosecution says the four defendants Nyezee Barway, Pascal Kollie, Edward Cole and Prince Youtay, mentioned in the documents were arrested in Liberia by state security and not in the Ivory Coast, as claimed by the defense counsels.

Presiding Judge Emery Paye has, meanwhile, reserved ruling on the motion and its resistance for Monday, March 31.
