(LINA) - The president of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), Abduallai Kamara, has challenged Liberian female journalists to strive to build their capacity in the journalism profession.
Kamara also noted that it is crucial to enhance the capacity of Liberian female journalists to enable them highlight women issues relating to development and challenges confronting them in society.
The PUL official proffered the challenge Monday in an interview with the Liberia News Agency at the start of a three-day Gender Sensitive Reporting seminar held on the theme: “Women Reporting Women.”
The PUL organized the seminar in collaboration with the West African Journalists Association (WAJA) with funding from the Norwegian Journalists Union.
He cited several issues confronting Liberian women including poverty, illiteracy, domestic violence and rape which, he noted, must be highlighted by female journalists who understand their implications better than male journalists.
The PUL president stressed that the improvement of Liberian female journalists is one of the strategic pillars of the PUL.
The seminar brought together more than 25 female journalists from various media institutions across Liberia.
