(LINA) - Grand Bassa County 2nd Judicial Circuit Court Judge Benedict Holt has said the people of the county have been denied access to justice due to the absence of Magistrates, County Solicitors and Public Defenders at the district level.

Judge Holt made the assertion at the opening of the May Term of Court held at the Grand Bassa County 2nd Judicial Circuit in Buchanan Monday.

Holt said the refusal of key actors in the justice system to take up assignments in the county is a manifestation that the people have been denied access to justice.

He said it is regrettable to note that there are Magisterial Courts in the county that lack magistrates something, he claimed, has not only undermined justice but has also denied the people of their right to justice.

Speaking on behalf of Magistrates and other legal practitioners at the ceremony, the Magistrate of the Buchanan Magisterial Court, Cllr James Kaba named the lack of Public Defenders, Clerks and City Solicitors as some of the major challenges facing the judicial sector of the county.
