Court Begins Hearing Armed Robbery Case

(LINA) - The Criminal Court “D” at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia has begun hearing in the case involving eight persons currently detained at the Monrovia Central Prison on charges of criminal attempt to commit murder, criminal facilitation and armed robbery.

Defendants Junior Roberts, Daniel Gbor, Amuchie Karpah, James Sonpon, Kerme Baysay, Junior Brown, Mamadee Kamara, and Jacob Verteken were on
October 20, 2012 arrested by the Liberia National Police in different locations in Paynesville Community, Newport Street and Patco Community based upon a complaint filed by three victims of these communities.

The indictment indicated that the defendants used cutlasses, single barrel gun, knives and placed the three victims Ibrahim Jalloh, Faquama Deline and William Vaye under gunpoint and took away several valuables, adding that the victims sustained serious bodily injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Following the reading of the indictment, six of the defendants admitted committing the crime, while defendants Mamadee Kamara and Jacob Verteken denied the allegation against them.

Meanwhile, the Presiding Judge of Criminal Court “D”, Judge Johannes Z. Zlahn has adjourned the case to Wednesday, May 20.
