MONROVIA, March 29 (LINA) - Financial crisis biting the Liberia DUJAR Technical College in the Township of Gardnersville has left its faculty and staff without pay for six months, the President of the College Rev, Nathan F. Mahteh, has disclosed.

He said, income generated by the college has not been sufficient to ensure the smooth operation of the institution.

Speaking Friday on the main campus of the College during a one-day symposium organized by the college, Rev. Mahteh said the college needs at least US$7 million to ensure its doors will remain open in the next five years.

According to him, the College offers courses in Agriculture, Nursing, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering, but that due to financial constraints, it is yet to construct a demonstration center for students who are studying these disciplines to do practical work.

Rev. Mahteh indicated that the proposed US$7 million will help the institution to construct a demonstration center for students to do practical in the disciplines they are studying.

He said the Liberian Government allotted US$50,000 for the College in the 2013/2014 national budget, but this amount is yet to be disbursed to the school.

For his part, Mr. Benoni Urey, former Maritime Commissioner, contributed L$100,000 to the College and promised to lobby with development institutions to contribute meaningfully to uplift the college for the benefit of young Liberians.

Also speaking at the program, the Technical Director at the National Investment Commission (NIC), Mr. Othello Z.B. Karr, disclosed that the NIC will shortly sign a Memorandum of Understanding with various companies in the country for graduates of technical and vocational intuitions to be given priority in terms of employment.

He encouraged students of the school to take their education seriously, as Liberia was depending on educated youths to move the country to higher heights.
