Former Public Works Minister Samuel Kofi Woods has dismissed claims that his administration at the ministry did not achieve the needed objectives during his tenure.
Mr. Woods said under his administration, the Ministry of Public Works did not receive funds appropriated for it in the approved national budget, noting that this could be verified by the availability of records at the Ministry of Finance.
According to the Liberia News Agency, Mr. Woods made the clarification Wednesday at a news conference he held for the first time since resigning as Public Works minister.
The press briefing was held on the campus of the St. Theresa’s Convent High School in Monrovia.
The former public works minister added that he has in his possession all relevant documents, which include monitoring reports, audit reports and presentations made at all levels, among others, that will be made available where and when necessary.
He explained that more accurately, funds raised and expended by the Ministry of Finance in the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 budget years are far below budgeted provision as clearly outlined in the fiscal outturn reports.
Woods also said that the ministry’s work plan as reflected in the expenditure plan of the approved national budget were hampered by the Ministry of Finance inability to actualize the budget needed to pay government contractors on time.
He said during his administration at the Ministry of Public Works, all contracts the Ministry entered into were also signed by the Ministries of Finance and Justice and that request was sent back to Finance for payment to contractors.
