The Lofa Bridge connecting Gbarpolu and Grand Cape Mount counties, which was recently ordered closed by Government due to its deplorable condition, has finally been reopened.

The bridge was reopened Tuesday following its renovation by a local timber firm operating in Gola Konneh District in Grand Cape Mount County.

Recently, more than 400 women from Cape Mount and Gbarpolu Counties staged a sit-in action on both sides of the bridge to prevent vehicles from using it owing to the deplorable state of the bridge.

The women’s sit-in action drew government’s attention to the situation and it ordered the bridge closed until its renovation.

In remarks at the re-opening ceremony held in Gola Konneh District, Assistant Superintendent for Development Tenneh Simpson Kpedebah assured citizens of Gbarpolu and Grand Cape Mount counties of government’s full support in the development of their areas.

She observed that the closure of the bridge for more than two months paralyzed businesses as well as prevented the free movement of the citizens.

According to her, the Liberian Government attaches great importance to the improvement of the living standard of every Liberian following nearly two decades of civil conflict.

Also making remarks at the ceremony, the Operations Manager of the company that voluntarily repaired the bridge, John Krah, said his company undertook the renovation as part of its social responsibility to the people.
