MONROVIA, April 12 (LINA) - The President of the University of Liberia (UL), Dr. Emmet Dennis, has challenged the UL Police Department to remain vigilant in preventing crime on the campuses of the university.

Dr. Dennis disclosed that over the past five years, UL police officers have been able to prevent fraud in examinations, including the recent UL entrance examination on the campuses.

The UL official made the call Saturday at a program marking the first anniversary of the Blue Diamond Sports Association of the UL Police Department held at the Capitol Hill campus in Monrovia.

He said the UL Administration intends to train riot police to handle riotous situations on the campuses of the University, instead of calling for the intervention of the Liberia National Police.

He stressed the need to provide quality uniforms and equipment for the UL Police Department to ensure that the campus police officers are well attired and equipped to do professional policing at the university.

Dr. Dennis has, meanwhile, applauded the UL Police Department for initiating community policing on the various campuses and also engaging in sporting activities with police departments of other government entities to foster cooperation and understanding among them.
