MONROVIA, April 21 (LINA) -The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has uncovered and confiscated five bags of marijuana with a street value of over L$ 600,000 in the ELWA community in Paynesville.
Making the disclosure to journalists at a press conference at the weekend in Monrovia, DEA Director Anthony Suoh, said authorities of the agency got the tip-off about the marijuana from some of its agents on Saturday morning.
He said the agents disclosed that the drugs were hidden in the Red Light area by some notorious drug smugglers and criminals, but while on a search the DEA got “credible hints” that the substances were moved to the ELWA community.
Suoh said the DEA agents then moved to the community where they dug out the drug from a hole.
Suoh, however, said no suspect has been arrested, but that the agency is doing everything possible to arrest and bring to justice anyone caught in the “dragnet”.
Suoh informed journalists that the fight against illegal substances in Liberia is difficult as dealers in many counties, including Montserrado, Bong and Nimba, are growing the Indian hemp on farms, increasing the quantity of drugs in the country.
Meanwhile, the DEA official has called on the National Legislature to pass a Drug Law that would prescribe tough measures for drug users and suppliers, as the consumption of such substances is destroying the future of the young people.
According to Suoh, many drug users and dealers are taking advantage of the lapses in the country’s drag law to make money and destroy some of the nation’s future leaders.
