Monrovia, MICAT 4, July 2014: Liberia, one of 61 member countries participating in the Open Government Partnership (OGP), will commemorate the 1st Anniversary since its acceptance in the OGP.
A formal program will take place at the University of Liberia Auditorium on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, to highlight Liberia’s progress in implementing its National Action Plan. The program will also afford a review of the challenges as well as the roadmap for the second year National Action Plan.
Senator Jawel Howard Taylor, Senior Senator of Bong County is expected to deliver the opening plenary address; while Mr. Thomas Doe Nah, Executive Director of CENTAL, will provide a perspective from civil society.
The OGP is an initiative launched in 2011 which brings Government and Civil Society stakeholders together in a partnership to tackle major governance issues such as the fight against corruption, citizens’ participation and increasing transparency and accountability in Governments around the world.
In 2013, Liberia’s Country Action Plan was developed and validated by various stakeholders. The Plan was subsequently endorsed by the Liberian Cabinet. The actions were in furtherance to the Letter of Intent by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf that Liberia joins the Open Government Partnership (OGP) to strengthen openness in the governance process.
The First Anniversary Program will bring together more than 100 participants from across Government, civil society, the diplomatic community, as well as OGP member countries.
