BOPOLU CITY, April 30 (LINA) - The office of the City Solicitor of Bopolu, Gbarpolu County, has screened 23 persons arrested in connection with the recent attack on the County's former
police commander, Sgt. Prince Hana, and his colleague in the diamond-rich town of Wiaman.
The two were attacked during a police raid on drug dealers and users in the town.
City Solicitor Lasana Sirleaf said the screening exercise was necessary because most of the individuals being detained were not directly arrested by the Liberia National Police, but by citizens of Wiaman Town.
He told the Liberia News Agency that six other persons were released after their relatives secured a criminal appearance bond.
Mr. Sirleaf revealed that his office will send the listing of those screened to County Attorney Stephen Kerwilliams, who will determine the next course of action.
He said the process will also afford Mr. Kerwilliams the opportunity to know whether the charge of aggravated and simple assault against the defendants is valid.
Mr. Sirleaf has meanwhile said that efforts are being made by his office to take two female defendants who sustained minor injuries during the incident to the hospital for medical treatment.
