MONROVIA, May 7 (LINA) – The House of Representatives has forwarded to the Senate Plenary for concurrence an Act seeking to establish the Liberia National Maternity and Children’s Hospital at the former Maternity Center in Monrovia.

When established, the National Maternity and Children’s Hospital will provide clinical and surgical services to pregnant women and children below ten years of age.

According to the Act, which was introduced by Montserrado County Representative Acarous Gray, the entity will operate through budgetary allotment by the National Legislature as well as support from donors.

It will also be presided over by a seven-member board, which will be appointed by the President of Liberia for a two-year term.

In June 2013, Representative Gray introduced the bill but it languished in committee room for nearly a year before its passage by that August body.
