ROBERTSPORT, May 29 (LINA) -The Principal of the Urias B.Freeman United Methodist School in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County, Rev. Teta Rose Mensah, has decried the practice of schools accepting transfer students with fake academic documents.
Rev. Mensah attributed the poor academic performance of students partly to this practice, which, she noted, “is tantamount to accepting students who promote themselves.”
The United Methodist school principal made the observation recently in Robersport, Grand Cape Mount County on a radio talk show hosted by Piso Radio.
She said the practice of students promoting themselves from one grade to another is becoming prevalent in Liberia, because school administrators are accepting students from different schools without proper documents as required by the Ministry of Education.
The Methodist prelate said to discourage this practice, there was need for each community to form principals’ associations to afford them the opportunity to monitor the movement of students in their areas to curb self-promotion.
Rev. Mensah observed that it was impossible in the 1940s, 50s, 60s and 70s for students to enroll in other schools without a report card, letter of recommendation and transfer certificate from their previous school as well as an official transcript signed by the principal of the former school.
She said in order to have sound and quality education there was need for the reintroduction of rules of the "normal day" education system.
